Our
Music Ministry at Hampton Baptist Church provides a venue for interested
persons to discover the nature of God through sounds and words, to develop
interactive skills within the choral process, and to support the various
services of worship through regular participation. The Music Ministry also
strives to involve available instrumental talent to complement the overall
effectiveness of the music program. We hope you will find one or more
opportunities to participate:
-
The
MELODY CHOIR for children ages 4 through 6 rehearses every Wednesday
evening at 6:15 p.m.
-
The
CONCORD CHOIR for Second through Fourth graders rehearses Wednesday
evenings 6:15 to 7:00 p.m., and participates in the worship service
every six to eight weeks, as well as other church events.
-
The
JUNIOR YOUTH CHOIR for Fifth through Eighth grade boys and girls sings
in a church service on an monthly basis. The choir rehearses every
Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m.
-
The
SENIOR YOUTH CHOIR for young men and women in the Ninth through
Twelfth grades provides leadership in the church service on a monthly
basis. The choir meets Sunday afternoons at 5:00 p.m.
-
The
SANCTUARY CHOIR provides anthems and service music for the majority of
the worship services. Although their music is primarily from the
classic church tradition, they also sing a variety of styles. They
rehearse every Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
-
The
STEEPLE SINGERS investigate a more casual repertoire for young and
older adults. This group participates periodically in various church
events, including the worship service. Their rehearsals are announced
as needed.
-
The
VICTORY SINGERS is a senior adult choir which leads the worship
service twice a month. They rehearse on Tuesday mornings at 10:00.
-
The
HANDBELL CHOIR is an intergenerational group of ringers which
rehearses at 4:00 every Sunday afternoon. The bells are incorporated
into the worship service, in whole or in part, every month, adding
variety and zest to the service music.
We
encourage you to investigate one or more of these musical ensembles. It is
an opportunity for learning, relaxing, meeting new friends, and developing
a team attitude.
Our Youth Ministry is
active in many respects of church life, from participating in various
mission projects to social activities like laser tag and game nights. We
also make a concerted effort to study the mystery of our faith and other
topics relevant to teenagers today. Our youth are fully integrated into
the life of HBC and are blessed to have such a wonderful, caring family of
faith. I hope and pray that you may consider becoming a part of this
vibrant ministry. Normal activities include:
- Sunday Night Meetings (normally 5:30-7:00 pm, check youth calendar
for possible changes). Activities include mission projects, social
activities (ex. Laser Tag, cook-outs, baseball games, movie nights,
etc.), speakers on relevant topics, and game nights
- Wednesday Night Bible Study from 7:00-8:00 pm.
- In addition to our normal activities, we offer opportunities to
travel to camps, retreats, and mission trips throughout the year
Our Education Ministry continues to expand and grow as the life
of our church becomes more fertile. We offer a variety of programs for
spiritual, social, and physical growth. Look for announcements about each
of these nourishing facets of our Education Ministry. We hope that you may
find a niche here with us in your life of faith.
- Sunday School offers a wide variety of classes to suit many
different preferences.
- Discipleship Classes
offered on Sunday mornings, Monday mornings, and Wednesday evenings.
- Perhaps the centerpiece of our Education Ministry and a key
component to the life of our church is our gathering around the dinner
table in our Family Night Activities. Each Wednesday during the
spring, fall, and winter, we meet and have dinner
at 6:00 pm, followed by Mission Programs for the children, Youth
Bible Study for the youth, and Adult Bible Study for the adults, led
by our pastor, Dr. Charles Smith.
- In addition, the Recreation Committee offers exciting events to
further our Christian faith and fellowship, capitalizing on
opportunities to play and laugh with each other in Christian harmony.
Our Missions Ministry perhaps best typifies Hampton Baptist
Church. While many of our members do some form of mission work in their
daily lives as simply a part of faith, this ministry seeks to share the
love of Christ with all in need. The work of our Missions Coordination
Team presents an intentional mission effort to which all are invited to
participate. Beyond the opportunity to give financially to different
efforts, this team guides this ministry in "hands-on"
experiences. The Missions Ministry of HBC offers many opportunities to
live out your Christian faith. We hope that you will join us in serving
God by serving others.
- Summer Mission Trips
are planned to meet needs of those in other
places. In 2005, we sent a group of 40 people to Belize
in partnership with Queen Street Baptist Church of Belize City. In 2006
over 40 people went to the Gulf Coast,
responding to the call to help people pick up their lives in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
- Church-Wide Mission Projects
to meet specific needs such as
offering labor to our local Eastover Baptist Retreat Center and
bolstering the ministries of Hampton Ecumenical Lodging and Provision (H.E.L.P.).
- Lunches at Lincoln Park
, are made with loving care every fourth
Saturday for distribution of bag lunches to the Lincoln Park Housing
Project, bringing physical nourishment to those in need of a good meal.
- Through nine months of the year, we open our doors and hearts in our
Soup Kitchen, ministering to the working poor and the homeless.
- We host A Night's Welcome for a
week each year. This is an ecumenical program which provides meals and shelter to the
homeless.
- Our Sock-It-to-Me and Throw-in-the Towel campaigns
collect socks, towels and other basic necessities for homeless men,
women, and children that are distributed during our participation in A
Night’s Welcome each year.
- We offer mission organizations for all ages: Mission Friends, GA's,
RA's, Acteens, and WMU. These groups provide mission education and
opportunities to minister to others through various mission
activities.
